Édouard louis in paradiso
TUESDAY OCTOBER 2Nd, 20h30 (DOORS OPEN AT 20H)
On October 2nd, it will be the seventh time literary magazine De Gids (the oldest and largest in the Netherlands) hosts their yearly Gidslezing. This year, the lecture takes place in Paradiso Amsterdam and is held by the young French author Édouard Louis (1992).
His debut novel 'En finir avec Eddy Bellegueule' (2014) became a bestseller in France and led to heated discussions about the gap between the rich and the poor. His third book, 'Qui a tué mon père', in which Louis shows that political decision-making hardly effects the elite who makes the decisions, but can have a devastating effect on the daily lives of the working class. During the Gidslezing, Louis will talk about the voice of lower classes in literature.
The lecture will be held in English, as is the interview afterwards. In addition, three actors will each read from work by Louis which they selected themselves – this part will be in Dutch.”
